Wingers Fighting Homophobia? Conservative Bloggers vs. the House of Saud

Tue Apr 12, 2005 at 02:52:54 PM PDT

Reading over at Instapundit, I spotted this link, described by Glenn Reynolds as "Rampant Theocratic Homophobia."  Needless to say, any time Republican bloggers speak of homophobia, I get dubious.

Reynold's link sent me over to a blog I'd never seen before:  Gateway Pundit.  The post in question goes into detail on a brutal indictment recently handed down to 33 Saudi men for "dancing and behaving like women" at a secret party.

He references the following from the Saudi Institute:

BOOK NERDS: Book-Bond While You Support Indy Media!

Thu Feb 03, 2005 at 09:51:54 AM PDT

I just found this site through a posting on tribe.net:  it's still in Beta, doesn't have many users, and thus far is still working on breaking even.

The promise of it, though, is great.

It's called Books We Like, and it works a bit like a Friendster for books.  You can list the books you love, find people who love similar titles, then see what they recommend.

More importantly, you can make buys from Amazon or Powell's through their site--and all of their associate profits go to the Media Ventures Collective, supporting not only independent media, but also causes like Rainforest Action Netowrk, Code Pink, and a score of others.

My response to Bill Schneider

Mon Sep 20, 2004 at 09:10:20 PM PDT

So Schneider parroted the Bushit about Al Qaeda wanting Kerry to win the election on the last CNN Live Sunday.  Check it out here at Media Matters if you missed it:

I sent the following email to him just now to respond.  I don't know if sending these things are ever useful or not; but I figure it's more useful than me fuming at the screen on my computer...

Hitting Bush's "Strengths"--Bush doesn't support our troops

Tue Aug 31, 2004 at 07:45:12 PM PDT

The Purple Heart Bandaids are like Item 55 in the fattest stack in the world of evidence that the Republicans don't support our troops, either when they're fighting or when they're back home.

I just sent this letter to my hometown paper, in dear ol' Nevada, to try to hit on that point.

I encourage all of us here to do the same.  A letter to the editor isn't much, but it's more than a poor progressive fuming alone at his computer screen.

Here's my little stab at deflating the big helium dragon of the RNC:

You know, it's not bad enough that the Bush administration cut veterans' benefits.  It's not bad enough that they've kept soldiers on indefinite tours of duty, disrupted job and family life, and basically instituted a back-door draft of Reservists....

WA State Judicial Endorsements: HEEEELLLP!!!

Fri Aug 27, 2004 at 05:11:14 PM PDT

Hey, anyone in Wasington State in the know want to give advice to a newbie to the state re: judical elections? I'm totally freaked out this year--we KNOW gay marriage is going to the WA Supreme Court.

Just got my mail-in ballot and am all worried.  I can't find anyone saying anything about Position #6--  there are six people running:

White
Merrival
Schafer
Sanders
Stewart
Sebring

Who's progressive?  Who's pro-queer?

And what about the other contests?

Any thoughts?

Thanks for yer insights... happy voting!
